About Atelier Fujizakura

Fuji Sakura Kobo manufactures the local industry “Gunuchiho” that is handed down in the foot of Mt. Fuji in Yamanashi.

It is an original product brand of a small textile company that has celebrated its 100th anniversary.

In the spring, silk fabrics are produced in places where this landscape can be seen.

The Yamanashi-gun area at the northern foot of Mt. Fuji is a textile production area where many craftsmen have lived for over 1000 years.

The Gunuchiho area at the foot of Mt. Fuji has been actively producing textiles since ancient times, and it is called Gunuchiho.

Legend has it that it is a historic industry that has been mentioned in the Heian period books since BC.

In particular, it was prosperous from the Edo period to the Meiji period, and the silk fabrics of Gunuchiho were a symbol of the “chic” culture of that time.

The craftsmen of Gunuchiho have a spirit of challenging new possibilities while conveying high technology.

In response to the modern industrial revolution and the development of chemical fibers, it continues to the present in a greatly evolved form.

The production of modern Gunuchiho textiles is supported by the division of labor of skilled craftsmen in many processes.

「復古創新」

Traditional culture to utilize in the present age

Our feelings

The past builds the present, and the present creates the future.

The name of Fuji Sakura Kobo is derived from Fuji Sakura, which is a prefectural flower in Yamanashi Prefecture.

It is also drawn as a symbol on the lining of the tie and the brand name.

Fuji cherry blossoms are distributed around Mt. Fuji up to an altitude of 2000m and can withstand the extreme cold of -20 ℃.

The height of the tree is small, about 10m, and the flowers are in full bloom around the beginning of May when Yoshino cherry trees are scattered.

The flowers that bloom are small, and the colors and odors are modest. The appearance of blooming in a depressed manner is very modest,

It is a wild cherry tree species that is said to represent “Japanese and patience”.

With that feeling in mind, we will continue to make discerning textile products that value the cultural spirit of Japan.
